My Story

In the early morning of May 10th, 2008, in Sacramento, California, Sean Patrick Turpin passed away peacefully in his sleep. Sean had just turned 52, and was recovering, from a previous heart attack, suffered February 16th, 2008.

Technically, Sean died twice this year- first on February 16th, and again on May 10th. The many miracles which surrounded the first heart attack spared his life, and Sean was given an additional 12 weeks, to the day, in which to say goodbye to those that loved him. Sean’s courage, humor, and resilience during this time will not be forgotten, and we are grateful, for those additional, precious days.

Sean will be remembered for many things, including his love of music, and animals, especially cats. Sean loved his dear kitties, and never had a home without one (or three)

Many will remember Sean as an accomplished guitar player, who performed in various rock, blues, and country bands, in northern Illnois, Portland, and Reno areas . The many groups that Sean has performed with, span 3 decades, and include: The Rudy Hunker Band,  Rush Creek, Brimstone, Straight Shot, Southern Accent , and Axe Handle.

An avid online gamer, Sean was known to many as the grizzled cowboy character "Whiskey Dick" and a prolific political opinion poster.

He wore his first rebel cap at age 3, and became a civil war and military history buff, who collected memorabilia, maps, weapons, books, for decades.

Sean grew up a small town boy, who spent much of his early years on the family farm in Union Illinois, raising chickens, sheep and horses, and setting GI Joes on fire, reanacting elaborate war games. He was a devoted boy scout, and a talented basketball player. who attended Union Grade School and Marengo High School.  Sean was married, for almost 20 years, to his former wife Susie, before divorcing in 1998.

Sean spent a lifetime career in the plating and surfacing industry, and served as a former President of Portland branch of ASEF, the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society, Inc.  Sean’s work took him to live in many states, including Illinois, Colorado, Florida, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and California. He was a hard worker, who was exposed to more toxic materials than anyone should be, in one lifetime.

Sean was born on the 22th April 1956, in North Carolina, son of Joyce and Ira Turpin. Sean is survived by sister Jocelyn and husband John Zielinski of Reno, Nevada,  brother Michael Turpin and wife Madeline of San Diego, California, and brother Matt Turpin and wife Lisa of Rockville, Maryland, as well as his long-time girlfriend Jackie Holter of Vancouver, Washington.  His three kitties, Midnight, Purrla and Zena are now living in Reno, Nevada at "The Spa".

Sean was loved, very much by all his friends and family, and will be remembered, and missed, greatly, by everyone that knew him. He was taken much too young, but now he is at peace, god rest his soul.

"Death is not extinguishing the light; it is putting out the lamp because dawn has come".
