Brandon Teena was a transgendered male who had been suffering with a sexual identity crisis for most of her life. In the 90’s Gay, Lesbian, Transgendered and Undecided people were not accepted like they are today. Brandon lived his life the way it made him happy. He was no different from anyone else. He was very shy in his early childhood and very socially awkward, but soon realized what made him truly happy. Brandon Teena lived in Lincoln, NE for most of his life, he had his first real encounter with a female when he went to the Holiday Skate Park with friends, this is also the first time he dressed as a man. Shortly after Brandon started to dress like a male everyday and began attracting more and more women. In the summer of 1990 Brandon began his first major relationship with his girlfriend Heather, shortly after Brandon began working at a gas station so that he could support him and his new girlfriend. They had plans of moving into a trailer home. When Brandon’s mother found out about the relationship she did not approve. And immediately sought help for her “daughter” as she always put it but that’s not what Brandon felt she was and people needed to understand that. When Brandon decided to move to Falls city, NE he decided to be known as male. And to start over as the person he knew he was. Shortly after the move Brandon met Lisa Lambert, Lana Tisdel, Jon Lotter and Marvin Nissen . He began dating Lana Tisdel a few days later and they began to fall in love. Lana didn’t know that Brandon was a transgendered male and later found out and Brandon told her he planned on getting the corrective surgery and they remained together. On December 31, 1993 at a new years eve party Lotter and Nissen discovered that Brandon was atomically a female and forced Lana to see the truth. Later that night Lotter and Nissen assaulted and raped Brandon and told him if spoke of it to anyone they would silence him permanently. When they went back to Nissen’s house Brandon escaped through the bathroom window and went to Lana Tisdel’s home. When he got there Lana convinced him to file paper work and to give a statement as to what had happened. Brandon knew that they had said they would silence her permanently but she still went to the police. After he filed and had his rape kit done (which was later lost) he went back to Lisa Lamberts home in Humboldt, NE. Lotter and Nissen picked up Lana and went to Lisa Lamberts home with intensions of braking in to killing Brandon. They entered the home and went searching for Brandon. When they couldn’t find him they asked Lisa who wouldn’t tell them. They found Brandon under the bed. They then shot Phillip DeVine , then Lisa Lambert and Brandon Teena. When they noticed that Brandon was twitching they began to stab him to make sure he was silenced. Jon Lotter and Marvin “Tom” Nissen were found guilty and were sentenced to life in prison and death row.
Brandon didn’t deserve this, all of this could have been pervented if the police had done there job and arrested Jon Lotter and Marvin Nissen. But they didn’t and the worst happened I feel that the police department should have been sentenced also not just the one police officer.
